00100011. Who am I? Zeroes and ones. A code. For what? A reduction. Why? My distillation into a modern world. Two numbers in a sequence. A sequence? A chain of life. The genome of our universe. The genome of Me.

What used to be down is up. Our footprint, our identity, our stuff. We exist in a cloud rather than on the ground. No more dusty tomes annotated by past generations. We read our books on devices. No more album cover art. We download from above. Sift through that overstuffed drawer of aging photographs? No! They’ve all been uploaded and categorized. Zeroes and ones.

Technology has hijacked us into an era of post-individualism. Where does that leave Me? How do We fit into this new sequence? How do Our zeroes and ones fit the conversation?

#HASHTAG [00100011] is a mixed-media conceptual artist and fine art photographer based in New York City and the Hudson Valley. A lifelong student of photography, they studied at The International School of Photography and the School of Visual Arts. Working across mediums and anonymously, #HASHTAG [00100011] confronts contemporary political and social issues, oftentimes catching the viewer in the penetrating glare of commentary.

Works from the ongoing multi-media conceptual series The Treachery of Impermanence — featuring the newest installation BANNED: HAZARDOUS MATERIALS — are held in corporate and private collections across the country and abroad, most recently appearing during Armory Week at Art On Paper and The Hearst Tower in New York City. In 2022, The Treachery of Impermanence was exhibited in Focus: Art and Social Justice at the Woodstock Artists Association & Museum. BANNED: HAZARDOUS MATERIALS next travels to Iowa in 2025.
